Michael E. Nye, 74

CHESHIRE, Mass. —  Mr. Michael E. Nye, 74, of Cheshire, died Sunday afternoon. September 11, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was born in Adams on April 11, 1948, a son of the late John E. Nye and Alida (Lipka) Nye Gagnon. He attended Adams schools and C.H. McCann Technical High School, North Adams.

He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the United States Marine Corps from 1968 until his Honorable Discharge as a Lance Corporal in 1970.

Mike worked as a machine operator at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield and Schenectady, NY for 27 years. He then worked in the maintenance department for Hillcrest Educational Centers until retiring in 2010. Mike was a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion and enjoyed fishing and working around his home and property, especially caring for his lawn. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Shirley A. Bassett, whom he married on November 30, 1968 in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Cheshire; two sons, Daniel Nye and his wife, Jill, and Brian Nye, both of Cheshire; a brother, Peter Nye of Lanesboro; a sister, Deborah Yurkevicius of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Daniel Nye, Jr. of Pownal, VT; Colleen O’Hearn of North Adams and Maximus Nye of Concord, MI; seven great grandchildren, including Eythen, Ian, Marlee, Liam, Alan, Logan and Kinsley; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on a later date to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to Adams Post 160 American Legion, 160 Forest Park Ave. Adams, MA 01220, or to the Berkshire Humane Society, 214 Barker Rd. Pittsfield, MA 01201. Shirley, Sorry for your loss, I first meant Mike back in 1973 working third shift at GE, then again at Beloit Fibers in Dalton.
He was a good friend and will be missed, just seen you two last month at the picnic, He will be missed.

Shirley so sorry to hear about Mike passing away. He used to work with my dad at General Electric in Pittsfield, Mass. he was a wonderful man and always had a smile on his face. My Dad was Danny Levesque. I send out my condolences to the whole family. Will keep him in prayer.
