Robert E. LaForest, 70

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Robert Edward LaForest, 70, of North Adams, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, September 6, 2022, at Berkshire Medical Center, with his children and grandchildren by his side.

Born in North Adams on May 10, 1952, he was the eldest of seven children of Herman Edward and Helene Rose (Bourdon) LaForest. He grew up in the Greylock section of North Adams, attended local schools, and was graduated from Drury High School in 1970.

He attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst before enlisting in the United States Navy. He attended Nuclear Power School and served at sea from 1971 to 1977.

Following his military service, he was graduated from North Adams State College with a degree in sociology and economics. He was last employed by Berkshire Gas Company.

He is survived by his children, Jason (Suzanne) and Todd (Joy), grandchildren Claire, Meeclean, Benjamin, Nicholas, Gavin and Brynn, his former wife Jo Anne, siblings Daniel, Paul and Teresa, aunts, an uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his longtime partner, Patricia Williams, and siblings Carol Wagner, William LaForest, and Susan LaForest.

This is such a shock to me. I have known Bob since we were kids on Protection Ave. Our parents were friends til they passed. So sorry to the family. May he RIP. Thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
