John L. Ghidotti, 96
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — John Louis Ghidotti, 96, of North Adams, MA died Thursday April 14, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in North Adams, MA on January 6, 1926, a son of John Battista and Mary (Scovena) Ghidotti. He attended local schools. John was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Navy.
He was a longtime firefighter for the City of North Adams and retired as the Captain of the Department after 35 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and was a member of the American Legion. John enjoyed candlepin bowling, gardening, and was an avid Patriots fan. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and literally had the birds and squirrels eating out of his hand. John delighted in telling his personal experiences and stories of his time in the Navy and his days in the fire department.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Joyce Marie (Sweeney) Ghidotti whom he married on May 23, 1953; two daughters- Lauren T. (Kenna Utt) Ghidotti of Fernandina Beach, FL and Gail M. (Michael) Cozzaglio of North Adams; and four sons- Craig J. (Gail O'Grady) Ghidotti of Painesville, OH; Gary P. (Audrey Dumas) Ghidotti of North Adams; Marc R. (Sheryl Durant) Ghidotti of Douglas, MA; and David A. (Caroline Coury) Ghidotti of North Adams. He also leaves fourteen grandchildren including Kaitlyn, Krista, Kelli, Thomas James, Kara, Danielle, Amy, Ryan, Amanda, Shea, Kyle, Breanne, Cori, and Colby; twenty great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters- Dorothy Golonka and Catherine Ghidotti.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for John Ghidotti will be celebrated Monday April 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours AT THE CHURCH will be Monday morning from 9-11 AM.
