Richard "Mickey" Calnan, 69

READSBORO, Vt. —  Richard “Mickey” Michael Calnan, 69 of Readsboro, Vermont died Thursday February 24, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born in North Adams, MA on April 26, 1952 a son of the late Richard and Carolyn (Thomann) Calnan. He attended St. Joseph’s High School and then UMASS where he studied in the Arboriculture and Community Forest Management program. He then worked many years at McCarthy Landscaping and later was employed with the Laborer’s Union, Local #473 in Pittsfield. Mickey worked for Yankee Atomic decommissioning and retired from Unistress. He was also a member of the National Guards for almost 10 years.

Mickey had a passion for the great outdoors. He spent much of his time in the woods hunting and fishing. He went on many hunting trips with his brothers in Canada; his biggest trophies were both his Elk & Moose that were shot with a black powder gun.

Richard leaves his wife, Deborah Anne (Vallieres) Calnan whom he married on July 11, 1998; his six children, Carol Martin, Aaron Fosser, Amy Fosser, Nicole Fosser (Walsh), Matthew Benoit, and Melissa Benoit, as well as his siblings, Bonnie Szafranski (Michael), James Calnan (Nancy) and Dan Calnan (Karen). He also leaves several grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mickey Calnan will be celebrated Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will be in the spring. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home – WEST CHAPEL 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA 01247. Donations may be made to POPCARES.
