Richard Montgomery, 90

 

Lifetime resident of White Oaks section of Williamstown Richard Henry Montgomery 90, died Saturday February 5, 2022 at his home. He was born in North Adams on February 1, 1932 a son of Albert and Elva (Noel) Montgomery and attended schools in Williamstown.

He was employed at Mason Oil Co., American Carrier and for many years as a truck driver for the Williamstown Highway Department. He was last employed as a bus driver for Dufour Bus Co. Richard and his late wife Lillian also operated a firewood business for many years.

Richard was a member of the White Oaks Congregational Church, the Williamstown Grange and local camping clubs.

His wife Lillian Ruth (Harris) Montgomery whom he married January 15, 1954 died January 28, 2016.

Survivors include his children Lynn & Robert Hewitt of North Adams, John & Rosellen Montgomery of Enfield, CT., grandchildren Joshua Montgomery, Amy Walsh, Alyssa Montgomery, Keith Hewitt, Kurt Hewitt and Katie Gendron and her husband Jason. He also leaves two great-grandchildren Aliyah Gamache, Lyliana Gendron and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will take place Thursday February 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. A Calling Hour will take place Thursday from 10a.m. to 11a.m. Memorial donations are suggested for Hospice of Western Massachusetts through the funeral home. Lynn and John and family, I am so very sorry to hear about your dad's passing. He was such a good man. Always stopping to share a story as we walked by. Mowing the lawn and making sure his house looked good. A true White Oaks neighbor. May he rest in peace with your mom. Hugs to you all. He will be miss.

I have been neighbors with The Montgomerys all my life .I moved away as an adult as nd recently moved back .John and Lynn I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending all my love to you both and on eff day we will all be together again.

The Montgomery Family, the white oaks, they were a big part of it. Dicks Mom and Dad Henry and Alva, the store, the old pot belly stove! Duck drove truck for stockings chicken farm, many a ride he gave me and my sister Betty as we delivered papers for years up in the white oaks and sand springs! Wonderful friends. Lillian was a wonderful person, when cold she would invite us in to warm up , house next to the old store, store was next to our broad brook school. The good old days. R.I.P Dick Montgomery!
