Mary Jane Kolis, 93

ADAMS, Mass. —  Mrs. Mary Jane Strauss Kolis, 93, of Adams, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022, at the Kaplan House in Danvers surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Pittsfield on March 18, 1928, to the late Stephen and Helen Marauszwski Strauss.

Her husband of 67 years, William "Butch" Kolis, whom she married on Oct. 26, 1946, passed away April 2, 2014. She attended schools in Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School with the class of 1945.

Mrs. Kolis last worked as the distribution clerk for the former Adelphia Cable until her retirement. She was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. She was a member of the Adams Senior Center.

Her role as "Mother Nature" at the Berkshire Mountains Faerie Festival captured her spirit of adventure, whimsy and creativity.

She was a warrior when it came to her love and support of family and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her four children, Gail Sellers of North Adams, Ellen Clarkson of Danvers, William F. Kolis Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Lakewood, Ohio, and Lynn Herlihy and her husband, James, of Sinking Spring, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Jason Sellers, husband of Nissa, of Phoenix; Nathan Sellers, husband of Julia, of University Heights, Ohio; Kathryn Burne, wife of Andrew, of Long Beach, Calif.; Jeffery Clarkson, husband of Kimberly, of Gloucester; Jonathan Clarkson of Charleston, S.C.; Sara Butts, wife of Brian, and Rachel Kolis, partner of Geoff Knox, all of Lakewood; Megan Asklar, wife of Robert, of Wayne, Pa., and Molly Burley, wife of Daniel, of Lansdale, Pa.

Recollections & Sympathy For the Family

Dear Gail,

I am very sorry for your loss. I haven’t connected with you in any meaningful way since High School (if at all).

I don’t remember if you were at our 50th Reunion, but if you were, I don’t remember speaking with you. It appears we have one more thing in common besides losing our parents. I see from the obituary details that your husband had also died. My wife Marty died three years ago on the 19th of this month.

It’s always a tragedy in anyone’s life when they lose anyone as close as their spouse or their parents.

It doesn’t matter how old we are when it comes to losing parents. To us, they will always be “Mom and Dad”, and it hurts very much.

I will pray for you and your family that God will comfort you.

One of your long-forgotten classmates,

Dick Scholz 😢

Gail and family-
We were so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. I was happy to chat with her a bit at a high tea we both attended. Our thoughts and prayers are with you this difficult time.

Dear Gail Your Mom was always so kind to us. We will always remember her at our wedding with your Dad. They were like kindly fairy Godparents passing on a little bit of the sparkle and the magic that kept their marriage bright and happy for so many years. Having them celebrate our day with us was truly a gift we will carry in our hearts forever.

We're so very sorry for your loss. We were glad to know Mary Jane, she was one of a kind. Butch will have his lady home now so there will be a little more love to spread among the stars.
