Best-selling author Susan Vreeland
Williamstown - Bestselling author of Girl in Hyacinth Blue (1999) and The Passion of Artemisia (2002), Susan Vreeland imaginatively uses art history as the foundation for her latest work of historical fiction Luncheon of the Boating Party, based on the French impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir's beloved masterpiece. On Wednesday, June 27, the author will discuss her latest work at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute during "An Evening with Susan Vreeland." This free 7 pm talk is open to the public.

The painting Luncheon of the Boating Party, which depicts a colorful cast of individuals relaxing on the terrace of a riverside restaurant in the late 19th century, has long captured the hearts and imaginations of audiences worldwide. Vreeland's complex novel illuminates the painting's intriguing narrative, reflecting tumultuous changes in Parisian society and Renoir's own conflicts in art and love.

Vreeland is the internationally known author of art-related historical fiction. Her New York Times and Los Angeles Times bestselling novels have been translated into 25 languages. She will be available to sign copies of her book after the lecture.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, MA. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission is free November through May. Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and under, members, and students with valid ID. For more information, call 413-458-2303 or visit www.clarkart.edu.
