12:54PM / Friday, May 18, 2007

Pittsfield – Berkshire United Way Success By 6 will hold its 6th annual “Think Kids” Family Fun Fair on Saturday, May 19th beginning at noon at the Boys and Girls Club on Melville Street.

The “Think Kids” Family Fun Fair is very important to Success By 6, because it raises the awareness of the group’s mission: to serve as a collaborative to develop strategies within the Berkshire Community that focus on enhancing the lives of children and their families by promoting existing efforts and new initiatives to ensure that all children enter kindergarten ready to maximize their potential.

This year’s theme is "Having Fun Together," with a focus on activities that families can do together to promote family bonding and good relationships, which are to important factors in positive child development. Over 20 local organizations will demonstrate their support for families and children by providing a fun activity for young children and their parents, in addition to providing information about their own programs.

Once again, the event will feature David Grover and the Big Bear Band as entertainment, as well roving performer Trevor the Games Man.

Backpacks will be distributed to the children along with healthy snacks of fruit, raisins, pretzels, juice and water. Families are encouraged to pack a lunch and picnic on the lawn. There will also be raffles and other giveaways. Admission is free.

This year’s participants include: AMR Ambulance, Berkshire Children & Families, Berkshire County Head Start, Berkshire Music School, Brien Center, Child care of the Berkshires, Dr. Michael Fabrizio, Even Start, Kid Zone, Operation Better Start, Pediatric Development Center, Pittsfield CPC, Pittsfield Police & Fire, Pittsfield YMCA, Pittsfield Public Schools Safe Schools Healthy Student Initiative, Resources for Child Care, Safe Kids/Kid Care ID program, Tot Spot and WIC.

Among the fairs’ many sponsors and supporters are Greylock Federal Credit Union, KB Toys, Berkshire Eagle, Berkshire United Way, the Ruth and Nicholas Boraski Children’s Fund, Northeast Event Rental, Pittsfield Masons, Pittsfield Parks & Recreation Dept/Artscape Committee, and Sheriff Carmen Massimiano and his Deputies.

In case of rain, the performance will be held at the Boys and Girls Club on Melville Street beginning at 12:00 noon.
