Postcards From The Source At MainStage12:00AM / Wednesday, March 14, 2007
Williamstown – The Williams College Dance Program is proud to announce “Postcards from the Source,†on the MainStage of the ’62 Center for Theatre and Dance, April 6 and 7 at 8 p.m..
The concert will showcase the music, dance, and song of Kusika, The Zambezi Marimba Band, and a variety of guest artists-in-residence.
Kusika and Zambezi’s spring concert consists of post cards from Africa and the African Diaspora; not photographic postcards, but postcards that are danced, sung, or played on musical instruments. This semester, Kusika and the Zambezi Marimba Band traveled to Cuba, Ghana, and Nigeria, through the music and dance they have been studying.
Sandra Burton, Lipp Family Director of Dance, explained “We have been fortunate in our travels to have the services of a number of excellent guides, our guest artists.â€
Guest artists for the Dance Program include Sulley Imoro, Bernard Woma, and Kakraba Lobi, who taught music and dance from Northern Ghana. Robert Michelin and Arif Smith, guest choreographers, “took us to Cuba and Nigeria†through music and dance, along with guest performers Ritmo Latino. Colbye Prim, a sophomore at Williams
College, will also present “Afrohop,†a piece she choreographed, in the concert. Kusika and Zambezi invite their audience to relive their journey.
