Warner Friedman Paintings At Berkshire Museum12:00AM / Thursday, January 25, 2007
Pittsfield – The Berkshire Museum in downtown Pittsfield features a group of six paintings by Warner Friedman through May 6.
The installation in the Crane Room comprises large, vertical works depicting monumental forms, such as water towers, against sky blue fields. Friedman painted this group of untitled works in 1982.
Friedman (b. 1935) notes that these paintings marked a transition from the flat geometric abstractions for which he was previously known.
“These new works incorporated elements of light and three dimensions, today the hallmarks of my work,†said Friedman. “Seeing them exhibited in the Crane Room has reminded me how these breakthrough paintings gave me enough energy and impetus at that time to sustain me these past twenty-five years.â€
Warner Friedman has been the subject of solo and group exhibitions at numerous private galleries throughout the Berkshires and beyond, as well as at the Elaine Baker Gallery at the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the University of Connecticut, the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, and elsewhere.
His work is included in the collections of Albright College, Wadsworth Atheneum, Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, and many corporate collections. His honors include the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant in 1996 and the Richard Florsheim Art Fund Grant in 1993.
The Berkshire Museum is located at 39 South Street on Route 7 in Downtown Pittsfield. The galleries are open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays noon to 5 p.m. For more information, contact the Berkshire Museum at (413) 443-7171, ext. 10, or visit berkshiremuseum.org.
