North Adams - City police are investigating a Nov. 14 West Main Street assault that was first reported as a motor vehicle accident accompanied by a physical fight.
A 24-year-old city woman was taken to North Adams Regional Hospital and treated for injuries sustained during the altercation, according to a source close to the incident. The incident was reported at 12:26 p.m. as a motor vehicle accident with injuries and a fight, according to information on the police log.
City police Director Michael Cozzaglio said yesterday that the incident is under investigation. The report of a vehicle crash was not accurate but there was an altercation that involved one group of females who allegedly attacked a lone woman, he said. He declined to release additional information because the incident is under investigation. It was also not clear immediately after the incident if any of the alleged assailants are juveniles.
A source close to the investigation who is a relative of the victim said that a group of females were traveling in one car and impeded the ability of the victim, who was in a separate vehicle, to drive past. Once both vehicles were stopped, the relative alleged that the group pulled the victim from her vehicle and attacked her.
