Adams "Holly Days" Holidays

By Susan Bush
12:00AM / Thursday, November 09, 2006

Adams "Holly Days" holidays are set to begin later this month.
Adams - The holiday spirit is coming to town beginning Nov. 26 as "Holly Days" kick off with a community tree lighting ceremony.
The 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. event is set for the town common, with a 4 p.m. lighting ceremony preceded by a 3:30 p.m. visit from "Santa Claus."

Free hayrides, music, hot chocolate, coffee and doughnuts are expected to deliver additional cheer to the festivities.

Remember A Loved One

A "Holiday Magical Message Tree" is expected to be ready for decorating inside the Town Hall. Beginning at 1 p.m. Nov. 26, town residents are invited to add a homemade or store-bought ornament to the tree. Ornaments should be personalized with a message to a loved one. A "magical message book" will be available.

The Town Hall tree decorating will continue Mon.-Fri., 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m..

Parking along the downtown streets will be free beginning Nov. 24 and ending Dec. 31.

Residents are invited to turn their neighborhoods into holiday wonderlands and perhaps earn a $50 Big Y gift certificate for their efforts.

Spruce Up The Neighborhoods

A "Holiday House" decorating contest sponsored by the "Holly Days" organizer, the Events Planning Committee, will award seven gift certificates to homes. Those planning to participate must register at one of several downtown locations during a Nov. 20-Dec.1 registration period.

Judging is expected to occur beginning at 5 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12; winners will be notified by telephone. Selectmen will announce the winning houses during a scheduled Dec. 13 Selectmen's meeting.

Contest participants are not required to be at home during the judging but lights that are part of a display must be turned on during judging.

Registration venues are the Adams Free Library, 92 Park St., the Visitors Center, 3 Hoosac St., the Adams Co-Operative Bank, 93 Park St., TD Banknorth, 10 Center St., the Greylock Federal Credit Union, 2 Park St., and the South Adams Savings Bank, 2 Center St..

Additional information about "Holly Days" is available at a www.celebrateadams.com Internet web site.
