Pittsfield - Several Pittsfield individuals were arraigned on drug charges and one man was arraigned on child abuse charges at the Berkshire Superior Court on Monday Aug. 28. Judge Daniel Ford presided over the arraignments.
Edward Shove, 43, 716 North St., pleaded not guilty to one count of distribution of cocaine and one count of a drug violation within a drug free school zone. Shove was charged after police alleged he sold cocaine in Pittsfield on July 7.
Ford ordered Shove be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction on $10,000 bail.
Andre F. Jackson, who is also known by the alias "Jersey," 26, 341 West St., pleaded not guilty to one count distribution of cocaine and one count of a drug violation within a drug free school zone.
Jackson was charged after police alleged he sold cocaine in Pittsfield on June 26.
Ford ordered Jackson held at the Berkshire County House of Correction on $5,000 cash bail.
Joshua A. Thomas, 25, 66 Howard St., pleaded not guilty to five counts of distribution of heroin, three counts of drug violation within a drug free school zone, one count of possession of heroin with intent to distribute and one count of being present where heroin is kept.
Thomas was charged after police alleged he sold heroin on June 22, June 27, July 7, July 12, and July 14.
Police also alleged that Thomas had heroin in his possession when he was arrested on July 14.
Ford ordered Jackson held at the Berkshire County House of Correction on $2,500 bail. Thomas is also being held without bail at the Berkshire County House of Correction due to a previous arrest.
Stanbury Johnson,26, 716 North St., pleaded not guilty to one count of distribution of cocaine, second offense. Johnson was charged after police alleged he sold cocaine on June 29.
Ford ordered Johnson held at the Berkshire County House of Correction on $20,000 bail.
Mark Morton, 58, 23 Francis Ave., pleaded not guilty on four counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under age 14. The charges were filed after an investigation of alleged incidents that occurred in Pittsfield between Nov. 18, 1996 and Nov. 18, 1998. The alleged victim is now 15 years old.
Morton also pleaded not guilty to one count of rape of a child with force and three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under age 14 after an investigation into alleged incidents that occurred in Pittsfield between March 10, 1996 and Aug. 31, 1999. The alleged victim is now 16 years old.
Ford ordered Morton held at the Berkshire County House of Correction on $20,000 bail and ordered that Morton have no contact with the alleged victims.
Central Berkshire District Court Aug. 28
Bryce A Barnett, 28, 92 Deming St. pleaded not guilty on one count of trafficking in cocaine and one count of distribution of cocaine.
The charges were filed after an investigation of an alleged Aug. 11 cocaine sale.
Barnett pleaded not guilty to one count of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and one count of a drug violation within a drug free school zone. The charges resulted from Barnett's arrest in Pittsfield on Aug. 25.
Judge James McElroy ordered Barnett be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction on $50,000 cash or $500,000 surety bail. The case was continued to Sept. 26, 2006. The case will likely be moved to the Berkshire County Superior Court.
Eric S. Floyd, 44, 85 Cole Ave. pleaded not guilty to one count of assault with intent to murder, one count of threat to commit a crime [murder], two counts of assault and battery, one count of possession of a firearm with a firearms identification card, one count of possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, and one count of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
Charges followed a police investigation into an Aug. 27 alleged domestic disturbance in Pittsfield.
McElroy ordered Floyd be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction without bail and also ordered Floyd to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. The case was continued to Sept. 28.
Martin J. Farrell, 27, of 37 Chamberlin Ave., Dalton, pleaded not guilty to one count of trafficking in cocaine, one count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, one count of possession of a Class E substance [anabolic steroids], one count of possession of a forearm without a firearms identification card, and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Farrell was charged after police executed a search warrant at Farrell's home on Aug. 25. Berkshire Drug Task Force officers reported finding about 125 grams of cocaine, five handguns, and 14 rifles from the home. The cocaine had a reported street value of about $15,000, according to information provided by the Office of Berkshire County District Attorney David F. Capeless.
McElroy ordered Farrell be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction on $100,000 cash or $1 million surety bail. The case was continued to Sept. 28. The case will likely be moved to the Berkshire County Superior Court.
