Welcome, Mackenzie Klein

For two days, we wondered if she would ever make her debut.

Contractions came and went, there was a trip to the hospital that proved a false alarm and my daughter Colette insisted that the baby intended to hibernate until spring.

At 9:10 p.m., Jan. 18, Mackenzie Elizabeth Klein burst into the world pink and healthy, with flailing fists and fierce cries that seemed to demand: “Well, you got me here, now what?”

In a matter of seconds, 8 pounds, 8 ounces of baby girl wrapped Mommy, Daddy, "Grammy Sue" and "Nana" Klein around her tiny fingers.

She has amazing, amazing eyes.

She is a keeper.

She is blessed with a wonderful big sister. Mackenzie met seven-year-old Kaitlynn about one hour into her life; Kaitlynn was clearly smitten with her little sis and when asked what she thought she might teach her, Kaitlynn proudly declared “mathematics.”

Welcome, Mackenzie. The world is your oyster.
