Williamstown – A Dec. 27 late morning two-vehicle crash left four people injured and caused traffic snarls at the intersection of Routes 43 and 7 [Steele’s Corners].
Town firefighters were forced to use specialized cutting tools to free the occupants of both vehicles.
Police said that John Sullivan of Troy, N.Y. was driving east on Route 43 when the 2000 Ford Windstar he was driving collided with a 2000 Honda Civic being driven south along Route 7 by Jonah Schulte of Colchester, Vt.. Sullivan and Schulte were injured in the crash.
Each driver was accompanied by one passenger and the passengers were also injured in the crash, police said. Sullivan, Schulte, and the passengers were taken to the North Adams Regional Hospital and the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, according to police.
Police did not release the passenger identities.
The 11:05 a.m. crash pulled nine municipal, state, and private emergency response crews to the scene. Town police and firefighters were assisted by members of the Pownal Protective Fire Association volunteer fire department of Pownal, Vt., the Massachusetts State Police and the North Adams police department. Emergency medical technicians with the Village Ambulance Service, the North Adams Ambulance Service, the Pownal Rescue Squad, and the Lanesboro volunteer fire department/ambulance service were also called to the scene.
Two town Water Department employees assisted with traffic control along Green River Road.
The collision is under investigation. Police Sgt. Scott McGowan and police Officer Tania Hernandez are investigating the crash.
