Con Scheme Plaguing Business

Williamstown – Town police have released a description of a woman suspected of stealing from businesses along Main Street [Route 2] during recent days.

Police said that a white female described as being between 25 –35 years old, having brown hair pulled into a ponytail and about 5’ 5” tall is allegedly entering stores during daytime hours, removing items from store shelves, and then initiating conversation with a store employee. The woman is behaving as if she is acquainted with the employee, police said, and ultimately produces the item she has allegedly taken and asks to return the item for a cash refund. The woman is unable to produce a sales receipt, police said.

Police are urging store employees and owners to conduct “business as usual” if someone matching the description attempts to acquire a refund without a sales receipt, and then contact the police immediately at 413-458-5733.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact police .
