Williamstown – Town police have announced that a Sept. 27 report of an attempted abduction along Henderson Road is untrue and was the result of “heavy medication†being used by the woman who filed the report.
Police said that an “exhaustive investigation†into the report by town police Sgt. Scott McGowan and police Officer Kevin Garner revealed that the entire incident was “fictitious.â€
The woman who initiated the complaint is being treated for mental and physical conditions and the medications prescribed as treatment of those conditions likely “clouded judgment,†police said in a prepared statement issued on Oct. 5.
There will be no charges filed against the woman, police said.
The reported abduction attempt captured local media headlines and generated television news reports.
Police emphasized that while this specific report was unfounded, residents should remain alert and aware of their surroundings and also encouraged people to continue to report any suspicious activities or behaviors to police at the time of the incident.
