Williamstown – Town police are investigating a reported abduction attempt that allegedly occurred on Henderson Road at about 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 27.
An adult female told police that she was walking home when a male driving a light-colored vehicle asked her if she wanted a ride. The woman stated that when she declined the offer, the driver attempted to force her into the vehicle, described as a white or cream-colored mini-van style vehicle with a passenger-side sliding door, police said.
The woman was able to escape from the driver and fled through a wooded area to her home. She then drove to the police station and reported the incident, police said.
The van driver was described as about 5’ 6’’ tall and was wearing dark-colored clothing.
Police are urging all town residents to be aware of their surroundings, note all suspicious activity, and report all suspicious activity to police. Police are seeking information about the reported attempted abduction.
Town police Chief Kyle Johnson emphasized that assistance from citizens is an invaluable resource for police.
"People can never bother us," he said. "We are here 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We welcome informatiom from the public. If it turns out to be nothing, we love it, because we love happy endings. But let us decide. You never know when something that may seem small, may seem inconsequential, may be the missing piece. The public is our eyes and ears."
