Police Warn Phone Scam Targeting Elderly
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Police Department is warning residents of a phone scam. A fictitious organization representing itself as the "National Medical Office" is attempting to fraudulently obtain bank information from senior citizens.
The caller tells the senior the office will provide a supplemental card that, among other things, can be used to assist in lowering the cost of prescription medication. The card is being advertised over the phone as free of charge; however, the recipient is asked to provide bank account information to verify his or her identity before receiving the card.
The scam has been widely reported throughout the United States. Additionally, the Police Department is reminding residents to be vigilant when receiving unknown solicitations over the phone, the Internet or by mail. Police strongly recommend that no personal information be provided to anyone with whom you are not familiar.

Murder Suspects Arraigned In Superior Court

Judge John Agostini ordered that he be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction on $1 million bail.
Update, Oct. 12 at 12:28 p.m.: David Chalue, 44, of North Adams entered not guilty pleas on three counts of murder, three counts of kidnapping and three counts of intimidation of a witness Wednesday morning.
Chalue was ordered to be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction without bail.
PITTSFIELD, Mass — Two of the three men accused of committing the county's most notorious triple murder in recent history pleaded not guilty in Berkshire Superior Court on Tuesday.
Adam Lee Hall, 34, of Peru had not guilty pleas entered on their behalf on three counts of murder, three counts of kidnapping and four counts of intimidation of a witness. Caius Veiovis, 31, of Pittsfield had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf on three counts of murder, three counts of kidnapping and four counts of intimidation of a witness.
The two are accused of kidnapping and killing David Glasser, 44, Edward Frampton. 58, and Robert Chadwell, 47, after the three went missing from a Linden Street apartment on Aug. 28.
Judge John Agostini ordered that the two be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction without bail.
After a grand jury indicted four men last week and the case will now be heard in Berkshire Superior Court instead of Central Berkshire District Court.
Another man, David Chalue,44, of Springfield faces the same charges but did not appear in court on Tuesday and David Casey, 62, of Canaan, N.Y., faces accessory after the fact charges for allegedly supplying the excavation equipment used to bury the bodies of the three men in Becket.

Jon Gilmore, 21, of Pittsfield was sentenced to two and a half years at the Berkshire County House of Correction on one count assault by means of a dangerous weapon, six months at the House of Correction after that on another assault by beans of a dangerous weapon and given concurrent sentenced on single counts of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and illegal possession of a firearm.
Gilmore was found guilty on the charges by a jury on Sept. 29. He assaulted a 22-year-old man in Pittsfield on August 16, 2009.
Gilmore was sentenced to a total of three years.
Construction Worker Killed At Clark Art Museum

John Hanson, 82, of Castleton, N.Y. was pronounced dead at the construction site after the 7:30 a.m. incident. Hanson worked for a subcontractor on the museum's expansion project.
The Occupation Safety and Health Administration and officers from both the state and local police are currently investigating the accident.
Grand Jury Hands Down Indictments In Triple Murder Case

Adam Lee Hall, 34, David Chalue,44, Caius Veiovis, 31, and David Casey, 62, have been indicted and will be arraigned in Berkshire Superior Court in the near future, according to District Attorney David Capeless.
Hall was indicted on three counts of murder, three counts of kidnapping and four counts of intimidation of a witness. Chalue and Veiovis each face three counts of murder, three counts of kidnapping and three counts of intimidation of a witness. Casey was indicted on three counts of accessory after the fact, murder - three counts of accessory after the fact, kidnapping and three counts of accessory after the fact, intimidation of a witness.
Hall, Chalue and Veiovis are accused of kidnapping and killing David Glasser, 44, Edward Frampton, 58, and Robert Chadwell, 47, aftert kidnapping from a Linden Street apartment. Casey is accused of assisting in the disposal of the remains.
The three men were reported missing on Aug. 28 and police discovered their remains buried on private property in Becket about two weeks later. Hall, Veiovis and Chalue were charged with the murder while police continued searching property. Later in September, Casey was charged with being an accessory and accused of supplying the excavation equipment used to bury the bodies of the three men.
Prior to the disappearance, Glasser was scheduled to testify against Hall on kidnapping, assault, intimidation, extortion, and cocaine distribution charges.
That case started with a dispute between Hall and Glasser. Hall accused Glasser of stealing an automobile part from him in 2009 and then allegedly beat Glasser with a baseball bat. Later, Hall was accused of trying to frame Glasser for a robbery to prevent him from testifying against him. The case against Hall was postponed after Glasser went missing.
Frampton and Chadwell were "in the wrong place at the wrong time," according to Capeless.
The grand jury held the pre-trial hearing on Wednesday and Thursday.
