Cases heard before Judge John Agostini on Wednesday, July 20.

Andrew Latini, 23, of Pittsfield was sentenced Wednesday to four years in the Berkshire County House of Corrections after pleading guilty to an array of charges.

Latini pleaded guilty to single counts of burning a dwelling house, burning a motor vehicle, unarmed burglary, attempt to commit a crime, to wit: burning a motor vehicle, malicious destruction of personal property and defacement of real or personal property. He also pleaded guilty to nine counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle in the nighttime, four counts of larceny under $250 and four counts of attempt to commit a crime, to wit: larceny under $250.

He was ordered to serve a two-year sentence at the Berkshire County House of Correction on the burning a dwelling house charge. He was given concurrent two-year sentences on the unarmed burglary, eight counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, attempt to commit a crime, malicious destruction of personal property and defacement of real or personal property charges. He was given concurrent one-year house of correction sentences on four counts of larceny and four counts of attempt to commit a crime, to wit: larceny.

Latini was placed on one-year probation with a $1,500 restitution on one count of burning a motor vehicle and one count of breaking an entering a motor vehicle charges.

The incidents occurred in Pittsfield on August 31, 2009.

     

Fatal Accident Closes Route 8 in Adams

ADAMS, Mass. — An accident on Route 8 Friday afternoon left a Florida woman dead.

Jill Keating, 46, of the town of Florida was killed after her Chevrolet Avalanche crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer that was preparing to take a left into Speciality Minerals at about 12:25 p.m. Friday afternoon, according to police.

Keating was pronounced dead on the scene and the driver of the tractor-trailer, Eduardo Manuel Nunes of Miami, Fla., was uninjured.

Route 8 was closed for about four hours and traffic was rerouted from Friend Street through the industrial park.

Emergency personnel on the scene were the Police Department, the Ambulance, the Fire Department, North Adams Ambulance and the Cheshire Fire Department. North Adams and State Police were requested for traffic assistance. The State Police Accident Reconstruction Team and the Truck Team were requested to investigate the accident.

A full investigation is still ongoing.

Decade-Old Lee Rape Case Comes To End

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — It may have been quite the debacle and took more than a decade but the prosecutions of three men accused of raping a women in Lee in 1998 have come to an end.

William Jansen, 35, of Pittsfield pleaded guilty in Berkshire Superior Court to one count of concealing or compounding a felony Wednesday and placed on two-years probation. Jansen was accused of videotaping Aaron Kincaid and Richard Lampron rape a woman in their Lee apartment in 1998.

Jansen pleaded guilty to misleading investigators about his own and the other two men's actions.

Last fall, Kincaid pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated rape on the then 27-year-old woman after multiple trials. Lampron was sentenced to seven to 10 years in 2005, which he is serving concurrently with a similar sentence for his conviction on another rape in 1999.

The case had taken a lot of twists and turns, with mistrials and Lampron fleeing the state prior to the first trial.

Superior Court Briefs: June 28 - July 13

Cases heard before Judge May Lou Rup on Thursday, June 28.

Jeremy Babcock, 22, of Great Barrington pleaded guilty to single counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, larceny from a person, assault and batter and intimidation of a witness.

Babcock was ordered to serve concurrent nine month sentences at the Berkshire County House of Correction on the assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, assault and battery and intimidation of a witness. Babcock was placed on two years probation on the larceny charge.

A single count of mayhem and an additional assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon charge were dismissed by the state.

Babcock assaulted a 20-year-old male in Great Barrington on September 16, 2009.

Tory Blanchard, 36, of Florida had not guilty pleas entered on her behalf on a single count of conspiracy to violate drugs laws.

Blanchard was released on personal recognizance. The incident allegedly occurred in the county between November 1, 2010 and November 25, 2010.

Ashley Bove, 20, of Pittsfield had a single count of accessory after the fact, to wit: burning a dwelling house continued without a finding for one year.

Bove must complete 100 hours of community service. She was charged with operating a motor vehicle that was used to drive Liam Culver and Jordan Errichetto away from a fire they set in Dalton on April 12, 2010.

Tomaro Elgar, 37, of North Adams plead guilty to one count of being present where heroin is kept.

Elgar was placed on one year probation. The charges stem from the execution of a search warrant at 93 Park Ave. in North Adams on September 20, 2010.

Jamie Mundy, 36, of North Adams pleaded guilty to single counts of conspiracy to violate drugs laws, to wit: trafficking in oxycotin, possession of naloxone and burprenoprphione and possession of oxycodone.

Mundy was sentenced to 15 months at the Berkshire County House of Correction on the conspiracy and a concurrent one year sentence on the other charges.

Mundy conspired with others to traffic in oxycontin between April 2, 2010 and May 6, 2010 and was in possession of the other drugs on April 2, 2010.

Shauna Houghtaling, 19, of Pittsfield pleaded guilty to single counts of distribution of cocaine and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Houghtaling was placed on two years probation. The incidents occurred in Pittsfield on December 16, 2009. An additional count of drug violation within a school zone was dismissed by the state.

Jermaine Smith, 27, of Pittsfield was found not guilty on single counts of distribution of cocaine and conspiracy to violate drug laws. The incidents were alleged to have occurred in Pittsfield on October 6, 2009.

     

Rash of Break-ins Strikes Lanesborough

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Police are advising residents to lock their car doors after about 10 vehicles were broken into in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

According to Police, the vehicles were mostly unlocked and electronics were stolen sometime after midnight Thursday morning. Police have called residents informing them of the rash that spans across town from Sunrise Street to Ore Bed Road.

Police do not have any suspects and the case is still under investigation. The items stolen ranged from stereo receivers to binoculars to a cell phone.

Residents are encouraged to take "preventative maintenance" by locking doors and report any suspicious activity to the police.
