Girls Tied at PGA Junior Series Event in Williamstown

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Things have tightened up a little bit after Day 2 at the PGA Junior Series event at Taconic Golf Club.

In the girls division, Lois Kaye Go, a resident of South Orange, N.J., carded a 2-over round of 73 to pull into a first-place tie with Texas' Maya Walton at 9-over with one round left in the three-day event.

Virginian Alex Wright is just one stroke off the lead at 10-over after a plus-5 on Wednesday.

Walton, who was just 2-over after Day 1, struggled on the front nine with six bogeys.

Kaye Go, who already has a berth in the Junior PGA National Championship by virtue of winning the NJPGA Junior PGA Championship Qualifier last month, was steady on Wednesday, bogeying four holes and getting a birdie on the par-4 eighth.

Winners of the girls division and the boys 15-18 year divisions this week at Taconic will earn an exemption into the national championship, scheduled for July 29-Aug. 1 in Bryan/College Station, Texas.

In that boys 15-18 group on Wednesday, Austin, Texas, rising high school sophomore Daniel Martinez remains in the lead but came back the pack a little bit.

Martinez carded a 6-over 77 on Wednesday and stands at plus-4 with 18 holes to play.

Lake Placid, N.Y.'s, Arthur Griffin, who graduated high school this spring, is second at 9-over after a 3-over day on Wednesday. Belmont, Mass., sophomore Michael Pergamo is third at 10-over, six strokes off the lead, after a second straight 5-over outing.

Williamstown's Matthew Wiseman and Kyle Alvarez are in 47th and 52nd place, respectively.

Delmar, N.Y.'s, Austin Fox continues to lead the boys 12-14 age division. His six-over second round puts him at 10-over for the tournament and gives him a seven-stroke lead over second place Phin Choukas of Hanover, N.H.

The tournament concludes on Thursday. The girls threesome of Walton, Kaye Go and Wright tees off at 8:27 on the first hole. Martinez, Griffin and Pergamo head out at 9:48 off the first tee.
