Police Arrest One In Theft From Williams College Building

By Andy McKeeveriBerkshires Staff
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Police are still investigating the attempted theft of copper from a Williams College student housing building on the day of new student orientation.

According to Police Chief Kyle Johnson, Tyler Morgan, 20, of North Adams was arrested and charged with larceny over $250, malicious destruction of property over $250 and misleading the police on Tuesday.

Johnson said in an e-mail that Police responded to suspicious activity at the Tyler House, which the school uses for upper class housing, where at least two individuals attempted to steal copper drainpipes.

Morgan misled police with "a tale of being carjacked at gunpoint," Johnson said, and police then spent a few hours attempting to locate the other suspects. Police were unable to find the other suspects but the investigation is ongoing.

The Williams College class of 2016 arrived on campus Tuesday for orientation.
