Text Scam Asks for Credit Union Account

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Police Department is reporting a new scam circulating by text message:

PPD has received several phone calls from citizens concerned about a text message that they had received. The text message is from the Credit Union Center and it is an alert that their credit card was going to be deactivated. It asks that they call 413-347-3925 and enter their 16-digit credit card number. Once the number is entered they'll speak to someone who asks for their pin to verify the account. This is a scam.

If you have suffered a financial loss because of this scam please file an online report or contact the Detective Bureau at 413-448-9705.

Pittsfield Scuffle Ends Up on North Street

A fight near A-Mart spilled over into the street in front of the WordXWord crowd at Mission Bar and Tapas at 438 North St. Pittsfield,  late Tuesday night. One couple involved attempted to flee police and was surrounded by cruisers on the median strip.

Pittsfield Police Investigating ATM Thefts

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police are investigating a series of ATM thefts.

Three businesses have had their ATM stolen in the last two months. The first occurred in June when two men broke into Porter's Variety Store on Pecks Road and carried the cash machine out of the store.

The second incident occurred last Wednesday when a man used a hand truck to carry an ATM out Casey's Billiards on Dalton Avenue, loaded it into an open car trunk and drove off at about 6:30 a.m. The surveillance video from that robbery is available below.

Bill's Top of the Hill Citgo on West Housatonic Street was broken into in the early hours of Monday. Surveillance showed two men loading the ATM into a pickup truck.

Also on Saturday morning, Teo's restaurant on East Street was broken into and surveillance video shows a single person attempting to steal the ATM with a hand truck. The suspect escaped without the machine.

 

     

Jury Finds Vincent Guilty Of Murder

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A jury found a Pittsfield man guilty Tuesday of murdering his 27-year-old girlfriend in 2009.

David Vincent III, 43, was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to a life sentence at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction without parole in connection to the June, 2009 murder of Rebecca Moulton.

Moulton was beaten in a Fourth Street apartment that she shared with Vincent on June 3, 2009 and died the following day relating to the injuries. Vincent was charged with the crime and after a six-day trial, the jury deliberated for four hours over a two-day period before returning the guilty verdict on Tuesday.

Andrew Latini, 23, of Pittsfield was sentenced Wednesday to four years in the Berkshire County House of Corrections after pleading guilty to an array of charges.

Latini pleaded guilty to single counts of burning a dwelling house, burning a motor vehicle, unarmed burglary, attempt to commit a crime, to wit: burning a motor vehicle, malicious destruction of personal property and defacement of real or personal property. He also pleaded guilty to nine counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle in the nighttime, four counts of larceny under $250 and four counts of attempt to commit a crime, to wit: larceny under $250.

He was ordered to serve a two-year sentence at the Berkshire County House of Correction on the burning a dwelling house charge. He was given concurrent two-year sentences on the unarmed burglary, eight counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, attempt to commit a crime, malicious destruction of personal property and defacement of real or personal property charges. He was given concurrent one-year house of correction sentences on four counts of larceny and four counts of attempt to commit a crime, to wit: larceny.

Latini was placed on one-year probation with a $1,500 restitution on one count of burning a motor vehicle and one count of breaking an entering a motor vehicle charges.

The incidents occurred in Pittsfield on August 31, 2009.
