DALTON, Mass. – Wahconah senior captain Ava Massaro had a hat trick and registered the 100th point of her career on Tuesday in a 13-8 loss to Belchertown.

Madysen LePage scored six goals to lead the Orioles, but for Wahconah fans, the night was all about Massaro, who has been a mainstay for a very young squad in Dalton.

“Tonight we celebrated Ava Massaro, who has been an instrumental part of this program for many years,” Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. “She is a captain and a wonderful leader. Tonight she achieved the milestone of 100 points. Ava leads by example and has been an exceptional role model for the girls in the program.”

Olivia Roberts scored twice, and Danielle Hagmaier had two goals and an assist. Mia Thomas had a goal and an assist.

Phalyn Renderer stopped 11 shots for Wahconah, which demonstrated again just how far the program has come this spring despite coming up on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

“The team played an amazing game,” Budaj said. “This was the third time we played Belchertown this season and the first time we lost 13-1, the second time we lost 19-10 and tonight we lost 13-8. This improvement shows how hard these girls are working and continue to improve.”

Wahconah (0-15) hosts Lee on Thursday evening.
