Pittsfield Stays Undefeated with Eighth Straight Win
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After being earning a 1-1 tie with West Springfield in its first game of the season, the Pittsfield girls' soccer team has now run off eight straight wins by a combined score of 25-1.Mount Greylock (3-2-1) became the Generals' latest victim last night, falling 1-0 on the road. Despite facing one of its toughest tests of the season, Pittsfield (8-0-1) eventually broke through in the 31st minute when senior Sydney Deluce took a pass from junior Morgan Matthews and beat Greylock goal keeper Margot Besnard for the only goal of the game. It was the only mistake made by Besnard, who kept the Mounties in the game by making 13 saves.
"We played really well," Besnard said. "I think we played up to their level, which was good, but they pass the ball better than any other team in this league. Every single pass is right to feet or into space with someone running onto it. I thought our defense played really well, though, and we had offensive opportunties in the game as well. We hit a couple of posts."
Freshman Allie Hunt made six saves on the afternoon to record her seventh shutout of the year in goal for the Generals.
Pittsfield next plays at defending Division 2 state champion Auburn at 1:45 p.m on Saturday, while Greylock hosts Cathedral at 1 p.m. on the same day.
