Congrats Mayor Alcombright!!! however why would the people want Marie Harpin and John Barrett on city council? Do you really think you can trust the two of them???? NO YOU CANT!!!!

Although I'm very pleased with yesterdays results, one thing I hope we can get past in the future is the shunning of outsiders from representing us on the Council. Gail Sellers and Greg Roach were both excellent candidates with ideas and passion for the City. However, somehow their voice didn't get to the voters. A recognizable family name has become more important than anything else. Good luck to both of them in the future.

These two impressed me in the council forums. Hope they dont get discouraged and run again someday. I think they were smart, well spoken and are people I would vote for again. Congratulations to the winners! We do have a nice council and look forward to all their positive work.

John Barrett's election to the North Adams City Council is a sure indication that his voters value scheming, underhanded, duplicity. We must be vigilant to protect and watch the backs of the others on the Council, and the Mayor, to prevent the destruction and ill-will that John Barrett will surely foster and promote.

Congratulations to all. I was one who voted Mr. Alcombright into another term - and I also voted for Mr. Barrett and Mr. Cardimino as well. While Mr. Alcombright might not thank me for this (though of course he doesn't have to contend with Mr. Cardimino after all) I would rather see real discussion on issues rather than the same old tired "ayes" on everything. I think Mr. Alcombright can handle having a thorn or two in his side, and I think the city needs them.

Great to see Dick back in. But the council vote was the critical one and this town continues to display it's lack of or fear of imagination. Bringing back the ex-mayor to sit in council is pretty much asking for govt to grind to a halt. And rubber stamping the incumbents indicates that many people just aren't ready to move forward. Just what do Ms's Blackmer and Harpin contribute to coucil proceedings other than to push their own narrow agendas? It's great to see Nancy Bullett and Jennifer Breen Kirsch getting the nod. Greg Roach had so much to bring and is Eric Buddington's quiet thoughtfulness a detriment to good govt? And let's hope Mr. Cardimino holds to his pledge of denying us the pleasure of seeing him "kicked around" at future meetings. Good luck to the town of North Adams.

I'm taken back by the comments on here. Everyone that ran in this race whether they won a seat or not were willing to give a part of themselves to help their community and should be commended for that. What have you done besides sit on a computer and bad mouth them?

If everyone who could not or choose not to actively participate in election politics was expected or required to remain silent and refrain from "...sit(ting) on a computer and bad mouth(ing)..." there would be no point in having an election. These people ran as Representatives and the people that they wish to represent have every moral right to speak up. I don't like what was said here about Marie Harpin, Bobbie Cardimino, and John Barrett by some of those above (I voted for Dick Alcombright, by the way) but I'm not going to even hint that it should not have been said. Though I will suggest that Mr. "Editor" and "grow up" might consider taking their own advice.

It is amazing to see the number of small minded people who now live in North Adams. John Barrett took a city that was in ruins and rebuilt it. His legacy is one of progressive government in which so many good things happened. He didn't invent Mass MoCa but he was the main driver in making it all happen. Do any remember what State Street use to look like? How about the improvements to Noel Field or the Alcombright Field and what thay use to look like. Some don't remember where Center Street use to be. The library addition, the new schools and he did it all within the budget. This man deserves so much credit yet all we hear from is the small minded petty people. Even Mr. Alcombright has been part of the pettiness as he continues to try to place the blame on the former administration for all his problems. The ironic part is that is key people in his administration al came from the Barrett administration including Nancy Ziter. Give Barrett his due and if the Mayor is smart he will form a relationship with the former mayor who might just say yes to his offer.

Hmmmmmmm.... Who left the fiscal mess Mayor Alcombright is still trying to clean up? If you look in the dictionary, the former mayor's picture is next to the deffinition of "Small Minded". Yes, we do have some very nice athletic facilities....

people are uninformed and just check the first names on the ballot. its sad really - if they don't know what the candidate stands for then they should leave the ballot blank. want to get elected in north adams? just change your last name to abcinski.
