After living together in California for one week, Jay asked Ashlee to marry him. Ashlee was on her laptop in her room. Jay wanted to show her old Valentine's Day cards that she had written him. One of them said, "I can't wait to marry you someday." Jay told Ashlee that she was too sentimental. But he got down on one knee and popped the question. He wanted to ask her while they were out at dinner but was too nervous to do it in a public place. Then they went out to eat.
