Local Singer, Documentary Subject Performing One-Woman Show
LENOX, Mass. — The producers of the documentary film "Unfinished Song" will be sharing the subject of the film, local singer Wanda Houston, in a one-woman show.
The event takes place Sunday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. at Town Hall,
Houston will sing a variety of songs from gospel to torch to Broadway, with rotating musicians to fit each song. Wanda tells the stories of how these songs relate to her life over the years of her career as a performer. Finished clips of the film will be shared at the event. The event itself will be filmed for inclusion in the movie.
The overall theme of the documentary is bringing to life the connective power of music — As she performs her favorite songs, performer Wanda Houston tells the stories of where particular songs send her when she hears or performs them. Other stories of music's connective powers are conveyed by interviews from fans, local musicians, and musicians of note from all over. Musicians speak to this subject quite emotionally.
Filmed locally in the Berkshires, in several of the historic landmark spots Houston performs in — Firefly Gastropub, the Gateways Inn in Lenox and the Lion's Den in Stockbridge. Also filmed at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Juneteenth, and Pittsfield First Baptist Church in Pittsfield, where Houston is the music minister and choir conductor.
