CHESHIRE, Mass. — The Cheshire Community Association (CCA) is set to host the 2nd annual Cheshire Summer Festival this coming July 27.

"With this being our 10th year of block parties / festivals, we've seen how impactful bringing folks together for a good time can be," CCA President John Tremblay said in an email exchange. "Witnessing lots of smiling, happy people is always a testament to the value."

Scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cheshire Community House Grounds, the festival offers an array of entertainment for all ages. Headlining the festival is Whiskey City and there will also be a performance by It's Magic during intermission.

There will also be activities for children like face painting and balloon tying.

For those seeking friendly competition, the Cheshire Cornhole Cup also returns.

Ozzie's Food Truck and Diane's Twist Ice Cream will offer food snacks for purchase throughout the event. Festival-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

There will also be raffles.

"Our events are always free to attend, so bring the whole family out to hear some really great music, entertain the kids / grandkids with face painting, balloon art, and a magic show, play in a cornhole tournament, and of course partake in some of Ozzie's incredible food," Tremblay said.

In case of inclement weather, the rain location will be the nearby Cheshire Community House.

Tremblay added that the festival represents a change in Cheshire that has evolved over the last 10 years — following the motto "Cheshire Proud."

"Cheshire has evolved in many positive ways over the last decade. There are so many groups contributing to a vibrant community such as the Council on Aging, Lions Club, Recreation Committee, Volunteer Fire Department, Police Association, the list goes on," he said. "The recreation economy here is progressing and folks from all over are recognizing that this is a special place."

Hoosac Senior Honored with Superintendent's Award

By Brittany PolitoiBerkshires Staff
CHESHIRE, Mass. — A Hoosac Valley High School senior was recognized for her excellence in the science lab and beyond.

Kimberly Mach, top student of the class of 2025, received the Superintendent's Award during Monday's School Committee meeting. Mach is an athlete, honors chemistry student, and advanced writer, and is even delving into dark matter in physics.

"I think it's fulfilling," she said about the award. "Because when I learned that it existed, I wanted it so I feel like it's a testament to my hard work."

The Certificate of Academic Excellence from the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents was presented by Superintendent Aaron Dean. Only one student from each high school receives the award each year.

Dean congratulated Mach and noted that "this type of achievement doesn't come by accident," telling her parents he is sure that they are great role models.

Committee member Adam Emerson said he has been fortunate enough to see nine of these awards and it is always a pleasure to see the honorees' accomplishments.

"You and your family should be extremely proud of what you've accomplished," he said.
