PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city of Pittsfield and ener-G-save announced its selection to jointly participate in the 2022-2024 Community First Partnership offered by the Sponsors of Mass Save.

Pittsfield is one of 30 communities selected to participate in this new initiative.

Pittsfield and ener-G-save, a local nonprofit engaged in energy efficiency work for over 5 years, will work with local Mass Save Sponsors, Berkshire Gas and Eversource, to provide cost-saving energy efficiency solutions to residents, small businesses, houses of worship and local nonprofits.

There will be a particular emphasis on reaching renters and landlords, non-English speaking and limited English proficiency residents, low-to-moderate income households and small businesses.

"I'm grateful to be working with the entire Pittsfield community as we look toward a more energy-efficient future for this city and for our planet. I am eager to make sure everyone has an opportunity to benefit from the state's energy efficiency programs that can save energy as well as money," said Sherdyl Fernandez-Aubert, energy advocate with the Community First Partnership Program. "Together, we can further our community's commitment to equity and sustainability."

Participants will receive a no-cost energy assessment to identify energy-saving opportunities, such as insulation and heating and cooling equipment upgrades. Through this partnership, the Mass Save Sponsors offer up to 100 percent off the cost of approved upgrades. Participants can also receive a variety of no-cost energy-saving products such as water-saving devices and programmable thermostats.

The goals for this year in Pittsfield include 75 insulation upgrades and 25 high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment upgrades.

As a Community Partnership team, Pittsfield, Springfield, West Springfield, and ener-G-save is eligible for up to $60,000 in funding each year for three years to support these projects, as well as marketing and technical support from the Mass Save Sponsors.

Dalton and Fire District Set Tax Rates for FY25

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff
DALTON, Mass. — The Select Board voted to maintain a single tax rate, as it has done historically, during its meeting on Monday night.

This means all types of properties within the town, whether residential, commercial, or industrial, will be taxed at the same rate.

The town's tax rate for fiscal year 2025 is projected to be $16.47 per $1,000 property value, which is a decrease of 54 cents from last year's rate of $17.01.

The average tax bill for a single-family residence in Dalton would be about $5,561.06 for an average value of $337,648.

Residential properties continue to represent most of the total value in town, at approximately 86 percent, with commercial, industrial, and personal property only making up about 14 percent, Assessor's Clerk Lee Nunez said.

The town's excess levy capacity for FY25 is approximately $777,158, which is down from FY24's figure of $864,386.07. The town takes this figure into consideration when developing the budget.

The total assessed value of taxable properties in town for FY25 is $959,176,725, an increase of $63,853,860, or 7.13 percent over last year.
