DALTON, Mass. -- The Guilderland, N.Y., Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back in a 13-5 win over Adams-Cheshire-Savoy in Saturday's opener of the 16-and-under division of the Dalton CRA Inivtational Softball Tournament at Pine Grove Park.

Kora Juliano went 3-for-5 with a double, pair of runs batted in and three runs scored to power Guilderland's offense.

Emily Ravalli struck out five and stranded eight ACS Swat runners in the win shortened to six innings by the tournament's time rule.

After falling into the deep hole, the Swat rallied for three runs in the fourth to gain some life.

Courntey Kamelos got things started with a one-out single. Emily Glasier then reached on an infield single, and Kat Richardson drew a walk with two out to load the bases.

Emma Moser then delivered a bases-clearing triple to center field to cut the deficit in half at 6-3.

Guilderland answered with three in the top of the fifth and added four more in the top of the sixth to take a 10-run lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Kamelos singled and Haley McNeice walked ahead of a two-run double from Richardson.

But Ravalli induced two pop flies to end the threat and secure the win.

Glasier and McNeice combined to strike out three in the circle for the Swat.

In its second game on Saturday, ACS fell to the Lady Outlaws out of Albany, N.Y., 11-0. That dropped the Swat to the No. 5 seed in the the tournament and an 8 a.m. matchup against the Greylock Thunder in today's knockout round. If it wins, it will play the Outlaws again at 11:30 in the tournament semi-finals.

One CRA Tourney champion was decided on Saturday.

In the 12-and-under Division, the ACS Swat swept the first two games of a best-of-three series against the Greylock Thunder, winning by scores of 12-9 and 16-4 to take the title.

In the 10U division, the Greylock Thunder earned a bye into Sunday afternoon's championship game, where it will face the winner of ACS and Dalton, who meet at 1:15 p.m.

In the 14U division, a four-team semi-final round gets underway at 9:45 a.m. at Pine Grove Park.

The top-seeded Berkshire Force 14U squad, which went 2-0 in pool play, will face the Bolt out of South County in one semi-final. In the other, host Dalton (1-1) will take on ACS (1-1). The winners will meet at 1:15 p.m.

Hoosac Valley Kindergartners on 'How to Make a Thanksgiving Turkey'

ADAMS, Mass. — Hoosac Valley elementary kindergartners tapped into their inner culinary genius to share some tips on how to properly cook a Thanksgiving turkey.

Cooking times ranged from "some minutes" to a couple of days. Although some students recommended using a microwave, most gave detailed instructions on how to cook a turkey in the oven.

Recommendations for cooking temperatures were between 2 degrees Fahrenheit, warm, very hot and 20 percent heat.

Some students offered some insight on where to find a turkey (the store, bookstore,  the park, farm, forest, etc.) while others provided some welcome additions to the recipe including milk, chicken, chips, hot sauce and bacon.

Students recommend that you take a nap after you finish your Thanksgiving meal.
