STAMFORD, Vt. — Principal Beth
Choquette congratulated five students who were selected to participate in the Junior National Young Leaders Program.

"All of the staff and I know the parents and School Board members are very proud of them and very excited that have so many of them not only nominated, but selected to attend the program this summer," Choquette said at Thursday's School Board meeting

Hunter Sarkis, Madison Tatro, Dalton Tatro, Jackson Keplinger and Julianne Sullivan were chosen to participate in the summer program.

Sullivan will attend the Villanova (Pa.) University conference from July 9-13. She will participate in the Crime Scene Investigation program.

According to its website, the conference "offers mature, high-achieving middle school students the opportunity to learn about leadership by studying the leaders of the past and by focusing on social advocacy to make a positive impact in their homes and communities."

Choquette also recognized other achievements from around the school.

Jacob Keplinger qualified for the National Geographic Geography Bee in Middlebury, which took place on March 30. He was one of the 80 students selected from Vermont.

Choquette congratulated eighth-grader Olivia Grant, seventh-grader Lorenzo Cristofolini, sixth-grader Aimee Dowling and fifth-grader Matt Bugbee for their success in the Science Fair, which took place on March 29.

Choquette also praised the girls' basketball team for its undefeated season.

The School Board also recognized and applauded an ongoing third and fourth grade stamp project. The third- and fourth-graders sent a stamp proposal honoring Sarah Hale, the author of "Mary Had A Little Lamb," to the U.S. Postal Service. The Postal Service reviewing committee sent a letter back saying they will review the stamp.

Winter Storm Warning Issued for Berkshires

Another snowstorm is expected to move through the region overnight on Friday, bringing 5 to 8 inches of snow. This is updated from Thursday's winter weather advisory.

The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., has posted a winter storm warning for all of Berkshire County and parts of eastern New York State beginning Friday at 4 p.m. through Saturday at 1 p.m.

The region could see heavy to moderate snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour overnight, tapering off Saturday morning to flurries.

Drivers should exercise caution on Friday night and Saturday morning, as travel conditions may be hazardous.

Saturday night should be clear and calm, but warming temperatures means freezing rain Sunday night and rain through Monday with highs in the 40s. The forecast isn't much better through the week as temperatures dip back into the teens with New Year's Eve looking cloudy and frigid.
