Mount Greylock Boys, Girls Each Edge Lenox
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock girls and boys cross country teams Wednesday used their depth to earn a pair of one-point wins over rival Lenox in a meet at Reid Middle School.
Josephine Bay paced the Mounties girls with a time of 21 minutes, 26 seconds, 19 seconds ahead of runner-up Nora Schoeny of Lenox.
The Millionaires placed four runners in the top seven.
But Mount Greylock's girls took the next eight positions to compile enough team points for a 28-29 win.
Pittsfield's Yasmine Oubtrou was the only runner not from Lenox or Mount Greylock to crack the top 10; she placed sixth.
In the boys race, the Mounties came out on top by the same 28-29 score.
Rafa Mellow-Bartels led Mount Greylock with a third-place finish behind Lenox's Ben Harwood (17:37) and Cohen Zahn of Pittsfield.
Mellow-Bartels was the only Mount Greylock runner in the top seven, but, again, a wave of Mounties starting in eighth place made the difference.
Mount Greylock took places eight through 12. Zeke Singer in 12th place finished seven seconds ahead of the next runner from Lenox to put away the victory.
