McCann Rebounds With Win Over Everett
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — After giving up eight goals in a loss to St. Joe's on Monday, the McCann Tech boys' soccer team got back on track with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Mount Everett on Wednesday.Hornets' head coach Adam Kozik said his team's defensive effort and execution was much better than it was against the Crusaders. It also helped that senior Chad Raimer scored his team-leading sixth and seventh goals of the season, the last of which broke a 2-2 tie in the 58th minute of play. Sophomore Shane Fuller set up Raimer on both of his strikes, giving him a team-high five assists on the year.
"This was a turnaround game for our players, and it resulted in a great win," Kozik said. "P.J. Laliberte played a strong game in goal, and the field players marked much better. It was also nice to see Kevin Dowling score his first career goal to put us ahead in the first half."
Dowling, a sophomore forward, put McCann (3-2) up 2-1 in the 34th minute, taking a pass from classmate Chris Gajda and lofting a shot over the head of the Eagles' keeper. That came after Raimer's first goal of the game in the 17th minute, which tied the match after Everett's Jay Malisky scored the first of his two goals just two minutes in.
In addition to Laliberte's strong game between the pipes, senior captain Seth Marko was also very effective on the defensive end.
The Hornets close out a busy week with home game against Putnam at 4 p.m. on Friday.
