Philip J. Fosser, 81

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Philip J. Fosser, 81, of 96 Cross Road died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Mr. Fosser was the town's police chief for many years and was a longtime War Memorial trustee and election worker. Born in Queens, N.Y., on July 5, 1929, a son of Julius and Ethel Lee Fosser, he attended schools in Clarksburg and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams. A decorated Navy veteran of World War II, he served on the USS Missouri. Mr. Fosser was last employed at Yankee Atomic in Rowe. He had also been manager of the buildings and ground department for the Clarksburg School Department and owned the former Briggsville General Store. He attended Florida Baptist Church. He was an active member of the Clarksburg VFW and Senior Center, and a former member of the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a member of the North Adams Lions Club. He and his wife, the former Agnes Henderson, whom he married May 20, 1950, died April 23, 2007. He leaves two sons, Gordon Fosser of Pittsfield and John Fosser of Pownal, Vt.; a sister, Barbara Keeler of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Fay Langlois. FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services will take place Saturday, April 2, at 1 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will military honors will take place at a later date in Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours will be Saturday from 11 to 1 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department, Clarksburg Senior Center or Florida Baptist Church through the funeral home.
