Reno L. Maselli, 86

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Reno Louis Maselli, 86, of 592 North Houghton St. died Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Williamstown Commons. Born in Clarksburg on Jan. 12, 1925, son of Modesto and Elide Domenichini Maselli, he attended Clarksburg schools and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater with the 147th Infantry participating in combat in New Guinea, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He received a Combat Infantryman's Badge and a Bronze Star. Mr. Maselli was employed by the city of North Adams at Drury High School until his retirement in 1984. Before that, he worked at the former Arnold Print Works in Adams and the former General Electric in Pittsfield. He was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church. He enjoyed music and maintained his own orchestra, The Melody Boys," in his younger years. He was a founding member of The Aladdins and played at functions throughout the area. The Aladdins volunteered at church bazaars, nursing homes, senior centers, and colleges and played at the annual Christmas dinner at the North Adams American Legion. In 1999, they received the Rosasco Humanitarian Award. He also enjoyed fishing and upholstery. Mr. Maselli was a member of the North Adams Elks Lodge, the Sons of Italy, and Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion. He was a former member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club. He leaves his wife, the former JoAnn Cariddi, whom he married on April 3, 1948; a son, Thomas R. Maselli, and his wife, Beverly, of Clarksburg; four daughters, Alice Manica and her husband, Louis, of Greenfield, Nanette Vitali and her husband, Michael, of Ashland, Carol Daly and her husband, Glenn, of Holliston and Patricia Reardon and her husband, Peter, of Southampton, 15 grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Three brothers and a sister are deceased: John, Guido and Milio "Mike" Maselli and Angelina Bona. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Maselli will be Friday, April 1, at 8:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, March 31, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Retinitis Pigmentosa Foundation or the Mass Commission for the Blind in care of the funeral home.
