James J. Hyndman, 74
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — James John Hyndman, 74, of 1095 Mohawk Trail, died Thursday morning, March 24, 2011, at North Adams Commons, where he was admitted last week.
Born in North Adams on Jan. 1, 1937, son of Harriet Louise Lewis Hyndman of Clarksburg and the late James Alexander Hyndman, he graduated from Drury High School in 1955.
He was a Navy veteran, serving as a communications specialist from 1955 to 1959 in the Philippines. He then served two years in the Navy Reserve.
Mr. Hyndman was employed as manager of the parts department of K-M Motors. Prior to that, he worked for the former Mulcare Auto Parts. He also had worked as a bartender at the former Beach in the town of Florida.
He was a longtime member and past exalted leader of Elks Lodge 487 and a member and former officer of Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed scuba diving and traveling, and had dived off the coasts of Australia and the Dominican Republic. He also enjoyed walking and was an avid reader. He participated in the annual Relay for Life.
Besides his mother, he leaves two sisters, Beverly Daniels and her husband, Richard, of Clarksburg and Virginia Maxymillian and her husband, Francis, of North Adams; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and his best friend Patricia Mancuso of the town of Florida.
His son, James Michael Hyndman, died June 4, 1977.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A graveside committal service for Mr. Hyndman will be held on Wednesday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at Southview Cemetery.There will be no calling hours.
