Rose Marie Volpi, 96

ADAMS, Mass. — Rose Marie Volpi, 96, of 384 Old Columbia St., died Tuesday evening, March 15, 2011, at Williamstown Commons. Born in West Stockbridge on Jan. 6, 1915, a daughter of Stefano and Rosa Belini Smachetti, she attended schools in West Stockbridge and had lived in Adams since she was a young woman. Mrs. Volpi was a homemaker for most of her life, but had worked briefly at the former Brightwater Paper Co. She was a communicant of the Parish of Pope John Paul the Great and of the former St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, and was a member of the St. Thomas Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed cooking, and was renowned for her homemade ravioli, gnocchi and apple squares. Her husband, Victor D. Volpi, whom she married on Nov. 25, 1937, died on Feb. 21, 1983. She leaves two daughters, JoAnn Kendrick and her husband, Bruce, and Barbara Tassone, all of North Adams; a son, Aldo Volpi and his wife, Patricia, of Adams; three grandchildren, Andrea Piazza, Kimberly Sawyer and Victoria Volpi; a great-granddaughter, Miranda Sawyer, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Donald Tassone, on April 12, 2007; as well as her three brothers, Lawrence, Stephen and Aldo Smachetti; and her four sisters, Elizabeth Volpi Shaw, Nellie Demastrie, Mary Girard and Lena Smachetti. FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Volpi will be held on Saturday, March 19, at 9:30 a.m. from Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 from Pope John Paul the Great Church in Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours will be Friday, March 18, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Members of the Rosary Sodality of the Parish of Pope John Paul the Great will meet at the funeral home on Friday at 4:30 p.m. to pay their respects. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Elizabeth's Parish, North Adams, through the funeral home.
