Arthur R. Lyons, 89

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Arthur Richard Lyons, 89, of Staten Island, N.Y., formerly of Williamstown, died Tuesday, March 7, 2011, at Seaview Rehab Center on Staten Island. Born in Williamstown on April 9, 1921, son of Robert Henry Lyons Sr. and Mabel Huse Williams Lyons, he graduated from Drury High School in North Adams. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in 9th Cavalry Division. Mr. Lyons was employed for many years at the Robinson estate in Williamstown. In 1959, he moved to Staten Island, where he worked at Sears Roebuck and later at Seaview Hospital Rehabilitation Center and Home, until his retirement in 1989. He attended First United Methodist Church while in Williamstown and Brighton Heights Reformed Church in Staten Island. He was a life member of the American Legion, AARP and the NAACP. He enjoyed winter sports, bowling, music and dancing. He leaves his wife, Jane M. Lyons; a stepson, Gregory L. Bates, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Isabelle Lyons, Clara Chadwell and Martha Phillips, and his brothers Charles Williams, David Lyons, Robert H. Lyons Jr., Edward Williams, Clarence Williams in 1970, and Alfred Williams. FUNERAL NOTICE — Graveside services for Mr. Lyons will be held Monday, March 14, at 11 in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamstown Methodist Church in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
