Phillip E. Cook, 93
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Phillip E. Cook, 93, of 166 Main St., died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at Sweet Brook Care Centers.
Born in Burlington, Vt., on Nov. 7, 1917, the son of Brooks and Eva Reynolds Cook and was a 1935 graduate of the former Williamstown High School.
A decorated Navy veteran of World War II, he served with SeaBees (Construction Battalions) in the Pacific.
Mr. Cook was co-proprietor from 1942 to 1975 of Mount Williams Greenhouses in North Adams.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. He was a member of Richard A. Ruether American Legion Post 152 and a founding board member of Turner House Living Center for Veterans. A member of the Williamstown Grange, he loved to garden and was a master wreath maker.
His wife, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Lewis, whom he married June 21, 1947, died June 11, 2000.
He leaves a daughter, Cynthia Sault of Williamstown; a son, Evan Cook and his wife, Patricia, of Harwich Port; three grandchildren, Bronwen Cook Battaglia, Laura Cook Newman and Jessica Sault Watson, and six great-grandchildren, Sam, Henry, Will, Sophie, Olivia and Xander.
He was predeceased by his brothers Lester, Brooks and Herbert Cook.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mr. Cook will take place Saturday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Williamstown. Burial with full military honors will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, Feb. 18, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for Turner House Living Center for Veterans through the funeral home.
