Richard A. Wildermuth, 83

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Richard A. Wildermuth, 83, of 215 Stratton Road died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was a longtime local businessman and civic leader. Born in Hudson, N.Y., on May 7, 1927, he was raised in Philmont, N.Y., where he graduated from Philmont High School with the class of 1944. He also completed several business courses at General Electric. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Wildermuth owned and operated the Electronic Supply Center on Eagle Street and later River Street in North Adams from 1957 until his retirement. He first worked for GE in Schenectady, N.Y. He was a caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather; spending time with family and friends was his greatest joy in life. He enjoyed world travel and an enthusiast of sports cars and was a member of the Waubeeka Golf Links. He also was a member of First United Methodist Church, where served as a trustee. He was a former director for the North Adams Hoosac Bank and served on the investment committee. He was active member of the former Northern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce and volunteered for the Williamstown Information Booth. Mr. Wildermuth also served as a corporator for North Adams Regional Hospital and was a member of the Williams College Quarterback Club. He leaves his wife, the former Jeanette Van Der Biesen, whom he married April 30, 1949; two sons, Mark Wildermuth and his companion, Cynthia Alves, of Dartmouth and Peter Wildermuth and his wife, Cheryl-Lee, of Clarksburg; a brother, Arthur Wildermuth and his wife, Judy, of Port Orange, Fla.; four grandchildren, Peter Wildermuth Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, Kurt Wildermuth and his fiancée, Nicole Roberts, Amy Flis and her husband, John, and Carrie Wildermuth; four great-grandchildren, Aidan, Joseph, Owen and Austin Flis, and two sisters-in-law, Betty Wildermuth and Joann Kromer and her husband, Hugh. His brother David Wildermuth died 2000. FUNERAL NOTICE - Private burial for Mr. Wildermuth will take place in the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery. There are will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the Village Ambulance or VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
