Evelyn L. Jones, 87
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Evelyn L. Jones, 87, formerly of Bonair Avenue, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at Williamstown Commons.
Born in North Greenbush, N.Y., on Aug. 26, 1923, daughter of Clarence and Aleda Folmsbee Mizener, she attended Averill Park (N.Y.) Central School. She received her general educational development diploma from McCann Technical School at the age of 44.
Mrs. Jones worked at the former Sprague Electric Co., from which she retired in 1987 after 41 years. While at Sprague, she was elected vice president of IUE Local 200, holding that office until her retirement. She also reported for the company newspaper, The Sprague Log.
She had been a member of the board of directors of Landmark Credit Union since 1983. She also was a member of the advisory board for the Salvation Army, former secretary and treasurer for the North Adams Democratic Committee, and a committed volunteer for VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, Berkshire Share and the Brown Bag Program. She was treasurer of the Berkshire Retirees Club and former vice president of the local chapter of AARP.
Her husband, Richard E. Jones, whom she married on March 9, 1946, died in August 1998.
Mrs. Jones was the last of her immediate family. She is survived by longtime friends Janet and Gary Boody of Windsor, whom she considered a part of her family; two sisters-in-law, Isabel Carbosierio of North Adams and Eva Smith of New Lebonon, N.Y.; godsons Michael Martin of Worthington and Daniel Jordan Jr. of Old Chatham, N.Y; many nieces and nephews; and all her friends at the Spitzer Center and the Share Program at St. John's Church.
