Gladys E. Marsh, 97

PITTSFIELD, Mass. - Gladys Elizabeth Marsh, 97, died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at Laurel Lake Nursing Home where she had resided since January 2004. Born on June 6, 1913, she used the stage named "Darklis" and enjoyed performing locally. She loved to dance and sing, often performing at local inns. One of her joys was teaching young people classic ballet, which she did through her studios. She also played the piano, guitar and other instruments. Mrs. Marsh was a longtime member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Pittsfield. She also was an animal lover, often helping to rescue cats in need. Always bringing smiles and joy to the residents and staff at Laurel Lake, she will be sorely missed. She also will be missed by all those that had the privilege of knowing this truly flamboyant and kind lady. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edwin B. Marsh, stage name "Chavo," who provided piano accompaniment for many of her performances. FUNERAL NOTICE: - There will be no service or calling hours. Donations may be made in Mrs. Marsh's name to The First Church of Christ Scientist, 17 Wendell Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201 or the Berkshire Humane Society, 214 Barker Rd., Pittsfield, MA 01021. The Flynn &Dagnoli Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield was in charge of arrangements.
