Catherine M. Oldham, 66

READSBORO, Vt. — Catherine McGregor Oldham, 66, of 231 Bergrucken Lane, Alpenwald Village, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010 at her home. She was born in Pittsfield, Mass. on Jan. 2, 1944, daughter of James A. and Catherine M. (Bernard) Oldham. She attended Clarksburg schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1961. Ms. Oldham graduated from the former North Adams State College with a degree in education in 1965 and later received a master’s degree from the college. She taught in the Athol School system for a few years and then taught at Chandler School, a private school for women. She then joined the faculty at Drury High School where she taught in the business, math and computer science department until her retirement in 1997. She began a second career as an assistant veterinarian at Deerfield Valley Veterinary Hospital in West Dover and then established the Maple Sugar Kennels in Readsboro, which she owned and operated. On June 27, 1985, she established a business in North Adams called Wooliworks, which she operated for a few years. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Alpenwald Village. She was a member of the Alaskan Malamute Rescue of New England and used her home as a foster house for Alaskan Malamutes. She was an accomplished dog trainer and received many awards at dog shows. She loved all animals. Survivors include cousins, Donna Burdick of Williamstown, Mass. and Thomas Bernard of North Adams, Mass. FUNERAL NOTICE— Services for Catherine Oldham will be private. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alaskan Malamute Rescue of New England in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams MA 01247.
