Elizabeth Zoito, 87
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Elizabeth "Bess" Zoito, 87, of North Hoosac Road died Monday evening, Sept. 27, 2010, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a 18-month courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Charlemont on March 28, 1923, daughter of John and Viola McHaffie, she graduated from Charlemont High School.
Mrs. Zoito worked at Williams College and Northside Motel for many years.
She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams. She was the president of St. John's Guild and the last remaining member of the Rector's Aid. She loved quilting, knitting, and gardening. She loved going to her mobile home in Charlemont.
She and her husband, Joseph J. Zoito, retired Williamstown police chief, were married Feb. 22, 1947.
Besides her husband of 63 years, she leaves her son, William Zoito and his wife, Kathy, of Pittsfield; two daughters, Lorel Maynard and her husband, Lester, of New York State and Karen Bentz and her husband, Mark, of Lanesborough; a sister, Isabella Ross of Pittsfield; a brother, John McHaffie of North Adams; six granddaughters, Mary Cimini, Carolyn Sheldon and her husband, Paul, Susan Barbarotta and her husband, Chris, Michelle Haskins, Vicki Maxfield and her husband, Tim, and Becki Zaleski and her husband, Jim, and 14 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters Ruth Fitzoy, Grace Clark and Clara Jettson, and another brother, William McHaffie.
FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mrs. Zoito will be held Friday, Oct. 1, at 1:30 at St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Sept. 30, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial contributions are suggested for St. John's Church in care of the funeral home.
