Francis H. Gaspardi, 79

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Francis Henry Gaspardi, 79, of 1589 South Church St. died Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in North Adams on Aug. 29, 1931, son of John Battista and Josephine Segala Gaspardi, he attended Drury High School. He served in the Massachusetts National Guard for six years. Mr. Gaspardi was the owner of South Side Sales, a lawn and garden equipment and snowmobile sales and service business, from establishing it in 1970 until retiring in 1993. He then started a new business in customizing vehicles, 4X4, until selling it. He first worked at the former Berkshire Mills, at the former U.S. Gypsum in Farnams, and the former Brightwater Paper Co. in Adams. He then joined the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 151 in Pittsfield and worked throughout Berkshire County as a pipefitter. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and a member of the Adams Turners. He enjoyed bowling and bowled with the Turners and a senior citizen group. He and his wife, the former Rose Marie Albareda, were married on Oct. 21, 1950, in the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Adams. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Cathy Marie Freedberg and her husband, Richard, of Needham; two sons, Frank H. Gaspardi and his wife, Dr. Karen Gaspardi, of Sonora, Calif., and Bruce A. Gaspardi and his wife, Cathy, of Cheshire; three brothers, Enrico F. Gaspardi and his wife, Elaine, John Gaspardi and Louis Gaspardi, all of North Adams; four grandchildren, Bruce Gaspardi Jr., Robert Gaspardi, Andrew Freedberg and Corinne Hale, two great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his twin, Catherine Gaspardi, at age 3, and another sister, Mary Barbeau. FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mr. Gaspardi will be Saturday, Oct. 2, at 8:15 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, Oct. 1, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Church or the Make-A-Wish Foundation in care of the funeral home.
