Clifford E. Mahar, 83

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Clifford E. Mahar, 83, of 101 Furnace St. died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Adams on Feb. 14, 1927, a son of Wilson and Cecilia Bostwick Mahar, he attended schools in Adams. A decorated Navy veteran of World War II, he served in a construction battalion. Mr. Mahar was employed for many years at the former General Electric in Pittsfield, retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church. He was member of the ski patrol at the former Dutch Hill Ski Area in Heartwellville, Vt., for many years. He lived for his family and enjoyed boating, water skiing and snow skiing. He and his wife, the former Joan Martin, were married April 24, 1948, in St. Francis' Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Marcia MacDonald and her husband, David, of Adams; two sons, Clifford Mahar Jr. and his wife, Heather, of Cheshire and Robert Mahar of North Adams; two brothers, Roger Mahar of Cheshire and Donald Mahar of Texas; two sisters, Jacqueline Gay and Patricia Jones, both of North Adams; five grandchildren, Tracey MacDonald and her fiance, Duane Congleton Sr., Robert MacDonald, Gavin Mahar, Nathan Mahar and Conner Mahar; a great-grandson, Duane Congleton Jr.; his sister-in-law Lorraine Andrew and her son, Ronald, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Kenneth Mahar, who was killed in World War II, Ralph Mahar and Francis Mahar and his sisters Sybil DeGray and Phyllis Howcroft. FUNERAL NOTICE - Graveside services with military honors will take place Friday, Oct. 1, at 1 at Southview Cemetery in North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams.
