Gerald N. Duprea, 79
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Gerald N. "Jerry" Duprea, 79, of 85 Eagle St. died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in North Adams on March 13, 1931, a son of Theodore Duprea and Beatrice Champagne Duprea Lincoln, he graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served as a private, first class. He was decorated with three purple hearts and also served in the Army Reserves for many years.
Cooking was both a vocation and a love for Mr. Duprea, who started working in restaurants as a teenager. He was last employed at The Corner Lunch in Adams until retiring in 2003. He was a man of many trades and wise words.
His wife, the former Elizabeth Anne Richard, whom he married Feb. 9, 1952, died Jan. 25, 1994.
He leaves three daughters, Sharon Wheeler of North Adams, Teresa Cloutier of Williamstown and Elizabeth "Penny" Bean of the state of Florida; two sons, Ronald Duprea and his wife, Wendy, of Clarksburg and Donald Duprea of the state of Florida; four sisters, Frances Miles, Mary Robert, Eleanor Hill and Margaret Therrien and her husband, Bob, all of Adams; a brother, Raymond Duprea and his wife, Pam, of Bennington, Vt., six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son Gerald N. Duprea Jr. and his brother Donald Duprea.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for Mr. Duprea will take place Monday, July 19, at 7 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. A private burial will take place at the family plot in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
