Richard O. Dorman Sr., 75
POWNAL, Vt. — Richard O. Dorman Sr., 75, of Montgomery Road died Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.
Born in Bennington on July 21, 1934, the son of Otis and Daisy Hewitt Dorman, he received his early education in North Bennington and Pownal schools. He was a graduate of the former Williamstown, Mass., High School.
Mr. Dorman had worked in car sales and service for the McAndrews-King GM dealership in Adams, Mass., and the former in Shapiro Chevrolet dealership in North Adams, Mass. He also operated his own used-car dealership in North Adams for a time.
He attended the Men's Christian Fellowship Group in Bennington. He enjoyed singing and Christian music, and he loved the Lord. He enjoyed collecting honey from bee hives, working on cars and gardening. He was a NASCAR fan, especially of Dale Earnhardt Jr. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his beloved cats, Tiger, Taffy, Benny and Babee.
His first wife, Patricia Franz Dorman, died in 2002. They were married for 51 years.
He leaves his wife, Edna "Bonnie" Paul Dorman, whom he married Jan. 22, 2006; three sons, Robert Dorman of Clarksburg, Mass., Richard Dorman Jr. of Venetia, Pa., and William Dorman of Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Linda Goyette and Brenda Jones, both of Bennington; a stepson, Gary Viands II of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; two stepdaughters, Irene Ryman of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Bonnie Wiley of Vienna, Va.; his daughter-in-Christ, Jonny Emerson of Dorset; a sister, Margaret Martin of Greenfield, Mass., and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. Dorman will be held on Saturday, June 26, at noon at the North Pownal Congregational Church with Pastor Gary Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service, when the family will be in attendance.
