Kathryn V. Bushika, 88
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Kathryn Victoria Bushika, 88, of 65 Furnace St. died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Sweet Brook Care Centers.
Born in North Adams on May 3, 1922, daughter of Frank Bushika Sr. and Maria Carbone Bushika, she graduated from Drury High School in 1941 and from the Franklin County Public Hospital School of Nursing in Greenfield in 1947.
A registered nurse, Miss Bushika was employed by the Adult Day Health Center, retiring in 2003 after 18 years of service. She first worked in Franklin County for two years, then for 13 years at North Adams Regional Hospital. She then worked at the former Plunkett Hospital in Adams for a short time and for the former North Adams Visiting Nurse Association from 1964 to 1971 before briefly returning to NARH.
She was a communicant of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church and was a member of its former Legion of Mary. She also taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine there for 17 years.
She leaves a brother, Frank Bushika Jr. of North Adams; three sisters, Mary Messier, Theresa Pontier and Joan Cellana, all of North Adams, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters, Josephine Campedelli, Frances Bushika, Theresa Bushika and Joseph, Victor, George and Jerome Bushika.
FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Miss Bushika will be Friday, June 25, at 8:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday, June 24, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth's Church in care of the funeral home.
